About Us
We are passionate about introducing others to the joys of urban farming, cultivating a greater awareness of sustainable living practices, and empowering our community to grow delicious and nutritious food in any space - from small residential balconies to large commercial areas. We deliver high-quality farm set-up and management services, and engage the community through interactive events and workshops. Our innovative approach emphasises producing food that is as healthy for our bodies to eat as it is for the earth to grow. Our clients include companies, property developers, food and beverage businesses, schools, and individuals.
By integrating urban farming into our city's lifestyle, we help to shape a healthier future for our people and our planet.

Meet Our TeamOur Story
We (Andrew, Michelle, and Pol) started Rooftop Republic in 2015, united by a love for good food - food that is as healthy for our bodies to eat as it is for the earth to grow.
As three people who were born and bred in cities, we were frustrated with the growing disconnection we saw between city dwellers and their food, local farmers, and communities. Through our own personal experience, we were convinced that being involved in the process of growing our own food helps to build a deeper relationship with what we consume and the farmers responsible for producing it. Through this transformational experience of getting our hands dirty, we gain a better understanding of what real food looks like, where it comes from, and what it takes to get onto our plates, allowing us to make better choices about our food.
At the same time, we were inspired by the untapped potential around us. Although we were surrounded by Hong Kong's concrete jungle, we also saw an abundance of skyscrapers with under-utilised rooftop spaces. Our research showed that Hong Kong has an incredible 6 million square meters of rooftop space that could be utilised for farming, and less than 1% of that was being used (research by Matthew Pryor, architecture professor at HKU).
We knew that if urban farming could work in a fast-paced, dense city like Hong Kong, it could work anywhere. Armed with an idea and our savings, we launched Rooftop Republic.
Our Impact
Since our founding, we have gone on to:
1. Build more than 80 thriving urban farms in Hong Kong and beyond, in spaces such as decommissioned helipads, shopping mall rooftops, and public terraces
2. Transform 88,000+ sq. ft. of under-utilised urban areas into green spaces
3. Organise 970+ events around organic farming and sustainable living and reached 31,000+ people through our educational events, demonstrating the huge demand for greater connection with food and nature
4. Work with more than 20 organic farmers, train 8 hearing-impaired individuals as urban farmers, and create the Rooftop Republic Academy to nurture the next generation of urban farmers
Throughout all of this, we've seen the power of urban farming to transform people's mindsets, to shift their relationship with food, and to connect them to nature and to each other. We pioneered the urban farming movement in Hong Kong, and we're only just getting started.
